Microsoft launches TileArt app to bring parallax effects to Windows Phone home screens

 

Microsoft is introducing a new app for Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia devices today, one that lets users tailor their home screens and lock screens with a personalized “parallax” effect.
Parallax design has been creeping further into Web and app design in recent times, helping to create a more immersive experience.
With the TileArt app, users will be able to select separate foreground and background images, creating a start screen that seemingly “floats,” while they will also be able to download entire parallax themes from the TileArt gallery.

 

Microsoft has always sought to differentiate its mobile operating system from the pack by not using the little static square app icons that have become familiar to millions on Android and iOS. Instead, Windows Phone uses so-called “Live Tiles” that link to applications or specific features. These tiles can be moved around, removed, and resized, while the content of the tiles is dynamic, meaning they can display key information from specific apps in real time.
